Smith published the letter in Early discussion of it was marred by accusations of forgery and fraud, no doubt owing in part to its controversial comments. Today, however, there is almost unanimous agreement among Clementine scholars that the letter is authentic.

The Gospel Matthew Matthew, being one of the 12 apostles of Jesus , was originally a tax collector or publican and was viewed as a betrayer by his own people. As usual, Jesus selects those who the world despises to become His disciples showing that God is no respecter of persons. Since Matthew was well paid, as were all of the tax collectors who would take more than even the Romans requited in tax revenues.
Matthew, who was also called Levi, was the son of Alpheus Mk 2: As such, he intentionally focuses on the Jews and he uses many Old Testament references to point his readers to the fact that Jesus is the Messiah who was prophesied to come. Matthew does so in a highly accurate historical genealogy.

Tweet The Old Testament was filled with promises of a coming Redeemer. The New Testament, and particularly the Gospels, tells about the fulfillment of those promises. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are written from different perspectives and together give a complete picture of the Lord Jesus Christ and how He was the fulfillment of those Old Testament promises. The four Gospels we have in our Bible today are called Canonical Gospels.
That means that they are included in the canon of scriptures. The early church fathers considered these four books to be inspired by God. There are other historical books some accurate, some fictitious about the life of Christ which are not in most Bibles. These other books are called the Apocryphal Gospels. These are Matthew, Mark and Luke. The vast majority of the stories and the chronology in them is similar. Mark was probably written first.

This has changed over the past few decades because of the dramatic advances in digital imaging technologies and computer power. One of the best examples of this was the computer artistry of Ray Downing, whose digital re-creation of Jesus based on the Shroud was documented in “The Real Face of Jesus” program that appeared on the History Channel. In the past few years, digital artists around the world have been able to render their own interpretations of how Jesus may have appeared based on the Shroud and these show up from time to time on the internet.
However, throughout all those years, not one artist has attempted to create an interpretation of what Mary, Mother of Jesus looked like based on the Shroud image. Until now, that is. In July of my good friends Bill and Belenna Lauto directed me to the website of digital artist Dean Packwood in Taupo, New Zealand and shared his beautiful, photorealistic rendition of Mary, Mother of Jesus with me.
Dean chose the Shroud of Turin image as the structural basis for his truly beautiful, completely digital artwork and I wanted to share it with you. So I sent Dean a request for permission to include his painting here on our website and he graciously agreed to share it with us. In Ancient Greek philosophy , the term logos meant the principle of cosmic reason. In this sense, it was similar to the Hebrew concept of Wisdom , God’s companion and intimate helper in creation.
The Hellenistic Jewish philosopher Philo merged these two themes when he described the Logos as God’s creator of and mediator with the material world. The evangelist adapted Philo’s description of the Logos, applying it to Jesus, the incarnation of the Logos.

Determining authorship[ edit ] Determining authorship of any historical work generally starts by looking for a claim within the work of who wrote it. Scholars then look at the language used in a text to see if a single voice or multiple voices are present. Such style clues include: Level of education of the writer which is determined by grammatical accuracy, choice of vocabulary, slang or linguistic codes “yo dude” vs.
Elohim ; knowledge of topic, area, or history Palin’s comments on the Middle East vs. Joe Biden ‘s comments. Those same linguistic clues identifying multiple voices can be compared against the claimed author. Scholars try to date a work, again based on language clues in English, the word “lol” would indicate a book was written after , on references to historical events ‘after the temple burned, people were desperate for leadership’ — such a line could not be written before 70 CE , and references to other writings or people.
Scholars also look for confirming or dis-confirming records in other sources that would list the writing in question.
